Spawn on a small island.
Go to the nearest plains biome (-320 60 175) and go to the smallest cave entrance. Go down the tunnel. You will see a giant revine with plenty of lava and water for a nether portal. Lots of logs and wood from the giant web of mineshafts hanging in the revine.
Lots of iron, coal, lapis, gold, and a vein of diamonds in a side cave.
